Few strains have met the acclaim and fanfare of Josie Wales, Gorilla Glue #4. Since its debut at the High Times Cup in 2015, just about every breeder in California has worked this classic line – and Sonora Genetics is no exception. Our cut has been held in-house since 2016 and has worked in our gardens ever since. It is reliable, productive, grower-friendly and deadly potent, consistently yielding some of the frostiest flowers we produce yearly. To say we know it well would be a gross understatement!
Sonora did extensive breeding work over the years with original T.H. Seeds classic, “MK Ultra”, selecting different females for different projects from a common F2 gene pool we originally created. The F2 line was always dependable and never disappointed and often brought new phenotypes we had yet to experience. About three years ago we came across a unique terpene we had never seen before (or heard of) – “Cherry Coconut”. As the name suggests the terps are a dead ringer for a coconut colada with a cherry finish. Moreover, as luck would have it we found a male stud that brought the best qualities along for the ride!
Cherry Coconut turned out to be amazing breeding stock, lending a shorter flowering time as well as a unique and totally ridiculous, ‘cherry-coconut’ terpene profile. Most phenos are highly resinous, as you would expect from an MK Ultra parental line, with a wide branching structure that trains itself and is highly resistant to late season molds! Moreover, these traits pass over to the female pretty well, and the “Cherry Gorilla” project was no exception.
The thought occurred to us to work Gorilla Glue #4 back into our MK Ultra “Cherry Coconut” project. The idea was to double down on the heavy resin production and overall production of both our Gorilla Glue #4 cut and our F3 worked line of MK Ultra and still have the Cherry Coconut deliver its unique terms to the mix. Getting these terms to shine through was the high bar, and it took two runs to F3 before we got that target flavor of tropical fruit and citrus diesel we were looking for. And of course, that ridiculous resin production and bomb potency in an easy-to-grow package was the star of the show!
What you will get is a terrific boutique variety that is never dull, always tasty; and brings a pleasantly potent daytime smoke that appeals to everyone. Expect a 9-week run time, solid plant performance and resistance to molds.
